Six things we have learned from running holiday parties for remote teams every December.
December evenings belong to families, travel and other parties. A party in the working day says thank you; one at 7 pm feels like overtime.
Open and close the party yourself, and hand the hour in between to a host. Nobody wants their VP as the MC for 90 minutes.
Breakout teams that cross departments are where the good moments happen. Ask the host to shuffle teams so people meet someone new.
Pick a time that works for the farthest time zone, choose a winter edition if not everyone celebrates Christmas, and allow 3 to 4 weeks if kits ship abroad.
A box on every doorstep makes it feel like an event, but kits need addresses 3 weeks out. Short on time? A hosted game ships nothing.
Calendars fill fast in December. Put the event link in the invite right away and the party is on everyone’s calendar before the rush.
What happens when, and what the party itself looks like. We send the plan back within 24 hours of your request.
One hosted hour in the middle, with your own bookends. Swap the game for a kit and it works the same way.
Want to run the bookends yourself? Steal a game from holiday party games for work.
The add-ons and variations people ask us about most in December.
Announce it at the end of the party and it ships straight to each home. See holiday gifts for employees.
Winter editions keep the fun with no holidays mentioned, and kits ship abroad. More in inclusive holiday party ideas.
Our hosts run in-person parties too: New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington, DC.
Run several activities in parallel and let each person choose. See multi-event programs.
