A sample two-hour party in San Francisco

A Wednesday, 2:30 to 4:30 pm, 50 guests. A two-office afternoon: the Peninsula team rides Caltrain up after lunch, the canvases get an hour to dry during the cards, and everyone heads for BART, Caltrain or the ferry before the evening crowds.

  1. Before 2:30

    Load in, then easels up

The host unloads where your building says, then sets easels, canvas boards, aprons and paints at every seat. You provide water access and trash cans.

  2. 2:30 pm

    Canvas Painting

A guided acrylic painting on a 12 x 16 inch canvas board, with city and Peninsula people mixed at every table. Follow the host step by step or go your own way.

  3. 3:30 pm

    Boards along the windows

Paintings line up along the window ledge to dry, and the same seats switch to watercolor paper.

  4. 3:35 pm

    Watercolor Card Decorating

A set of four cards with the host guiding the techniques. Each person signs one for someone from the other office.

  5. 4:35 pm

    Out ahead of the crush

Peninsula riders catch a southbound train at 4th and King, East Bay riders board BART before the cars fill, and the canvases have had an hour to dry.

At 50 guests: Canvas Painting $3,500 + Watercolor Card Decorating $3,350 = $6,850 at list prices.

Planning a December party in San Francisco

Whether your team sits in the Financial District, SoMa, Mission Bay or down the Peninsula, these are the Bay Area details that shape a December party.

  1. Trains and boats fill after five

Most of a San Francisco office rides in: BART through the Transbay Tube, Caltrain up the Peninsula, Muni, or a ferry from Marin or the East Bay. Cars and boats are packed after 5, so a party that ends around 4:30 gets most people home ahead of the worst of it. Ferry sailings are spaced out, so check them before you set the end time.

  2. Rain season on steep streets

December falls in the rainy season, and a storm turns steep sidewalks and the walk to a Muni stop into a cold, wet trip. A party at your own office keeps everyone in the building. A wet canvas is hard to protect on a crowded BART car, so this plan paints first and gives the boards an hour to dry. Anyone with a long ride can leave theirs on the drying table and collect it the next day.

  3. Union Square shoppers and conference weeks

Holiday shoppers crowd Union Square and the streets around it all December, and when a big conference is on in SoMa, sidewalks and hotels near the convention center fill too. If your office is close to either, keep the party in the building and check the conference calendar before you pick a date.

  4. Older buildings, tight curbs

Plenty of offices in SoMa, Jackson Square and the Mission sit in older buildings with one freight elevator and little curb space for loading. Ask your building where a vendor can load in and whether it wants a certificate of insurance, and send the rules with your booking.

San Francisco holiday party questions

How much does office holiday party entertainment cost in San Francisco?

Canvas Painting is $55 a person plus a $750 base fee. Watercolor Card Decorating is $52 a person plus a $750 base fee. That covers the host and every painting supply. Food, drinks and the room are yours to arrange.

How far ahead should we book a December holiday party in San Francisco?

Book painting workshops at least 3 weeks ahead; custom branding needs 4 weeks. For Thursday, Dec 17, that means booking by Nov 26. If your date is sooner than that, ask us; we confirm what we can run in your plan.

Do you come to offices in Oakland, Palo Alto or Redwood City?

Our hosts travel to offices and venues in the San Francisco Bay Area. Send the address with your date and we confirm coverage for addresses outside the city, like Oakland, Emeryville, Palo Alto or Redwood City, when we send your plan.

Should our Peninsula team come up to the city, or should the party go to them?

Hold it where most people sit. If that's San Francisco, a midday Caltrain brings Peninsula staff to 4th and King, a short walk or Muni ride from SoMa and Mission Bay, and a party that ends by 4:30 gets them on a train ahead of the evening rush. If most of the team is on the Peninsula, send us both addresses and we confirm which one works when we send your plan.

What do we need to provide for a party at our office?

A room with tables and chairs, water access and trash cans. We bring the host and every painting supply, and we handle setup and cleanup.

What if more people show up than we planned for?

Give us your best headcount estimate; we use it to plan hosts and support. We can take extra guests on the day, and if attendance is well over your estimate we invoice the difference.

Can remote employees join the party?

The in-person formats are built for people in the room. For remote staff, book a virtual holiday party on Zoom (Microsoft Teams, Google Meet or Webex on request) on another day, or run one for the whole company.

Can we add holiday gifts for the team?

Yes. Pair the party with corporate holiday gifts shipped to each person, which also covers anyone who can't make it to the office that day.
