After the workshop: keep it growing

The host covers care in class. These are the lines to remember once the call ends.

  • TerrariumOn arrival, take anything living out of the box and set it in a bright spot. Water only when the care card in the kit says to.
  • TerrariumKeep it open. Open terrariums stay drier than closed ones, which hold humidity for moisture-loving plants.
  • Herb gardenKeep the seed-starter soil damp, like a wrung-out sponge, never soaked.
  • Herb gardenBe patient: herb seeds are slow and can take 10 to 14 days to sprout. Give the seedlings your sunniest window.
  • Zen gardenNothing to water or feed. Rake a fresh pattern whenever you want a two-minute reset.

Virtual terrarium workshop questions

How does a virtual terrarium workshop work?

Every guest gets a kit at home with the plants and materials inside. A live host leads a 60-minute session on your video call, guiding each step of the build, with plant care tips along the way. Nobody needs a green thumb: the host shows each step before you do it.

How much does a virtual terrarium class cost per person?

Terrarium Making is $84 a person plus a $379 base fee; Herb Gardening is $69 a person plus a $379 base fee; Zen Garden is $45 a person plus a $379 base fee, kit and continental US shipping included. For Terrarium Making that works out to about $100 a person for 25 guests ($2,479 in all). A 50% deposit holds the date, and the invoice follows your final headcount.

What's in the terrarium kit, and what do guests need at home?

The kit has a terrarium container, live greenery, decorative materials and the rest of what you need to build it; the exact container and plants can vary. Guests add water, a bowl and paper towels.

Can live plants ship to remote employees in Canada or outside the US?

Terrarium Making and Herb Gardening ship to the continental US with shipping included and list a per-guest fee for other addresses: Alaska, Hawaii & US territories +$75 a guest, Canada +$60 a guest, International +$45 a guest. Zen Garden ships to the continental US only, with shipping included. Live plants and seeds can face customs rules, so confirm every address outside the continental US with us at booking. With guests outside the US, book about 5 weeks ahead to allow for customs and delivery.

Is this a self-sustaining terrarium workshop?

No. A self-sustaining terrarium usually means a closed container: water evaporates, condenses and falls back on the soil, so it can go long stretches without watering. That suits moisture-loving plants like ferns. Our kit builds an open terrarium, which gives its plants the airflow they need, and the host covers watering and light in class.

How do you care for a terrarium after the event?

Keep it in a bright spot, keep it open and water only as the care card in the kit says. Herb seeds need damp soil and 10 to 14 days to sprout; a zen garden needs nothing at all.

How far ahead should we book, and when are addresses due?

Book at least 16 days ahead. Addresses are due 14 days before the event (16 for Zen Garden), so share the address form early and give people a week to reply. With guests outside the US, book about 5 weeks out. December dates fill first.

Is a terrarium workshop good for a wellness or Earth Day event?

Yes. It is a calm, hands-on hour with no competition and something living to keep, so it fits Earth Day, wellness weeks and Mental Health Awareness Month. For a full wellness series, pair it with a zen garden session or one of our other wellness events.
