How a hosted lunch and learn runs

A lunch and learn is a short training session people attend over lunch. Ours are live, so people can ask about their own situation.

For a virtual lunch and learn, you book a topic and send your team the video link. A facilitator who teaches the subject joins a few minutes early, runs the hour, and handles the questions. Zoom is the default; Teams, Google Meet or Webex work on request.

The hour shown here is typical. The exact flow depends on the topic and the facilitator, and most sessions ask people to have a pen and paper handy.

Lunch and learn ideas for the whole year

Six lunch and learns a year, one every other month, keep the series alive without filling the calendar. Here is a plan you can copy.

Running some sessions yourself? Our guide has 60+ lunch and learn topics with tips on format and promotion.

Make it a lunch people actually join

The session is the easy part. Attendance comes down to timing, food and a clear reason to show up.

  • Pick the hour that suits most people. For a team spread across US time zones, noon Eastern is 9am Pacific: call it a brunch and learn.
  • Sort out the food yourself. We run the session, not the catering. Expense a meal, send meal credits through your usual provider, or keep it bring-your-own.
  • Name the takeaway in the invite. “Leave with a plan for next week” fills more seats than a topic title.
  • Ask for questions in advance. We pass them to the facilitator so the Q&A fits your team.
  • Book about 2 weeks ahead. Zoom by default; Teams, Google Meet or Webex on request.

A lunch and learn invite you can copy

  • Subject: Lunch and learn Thursday: plan a week you can actually finish
  • What: a 60-minute live session on time management, with Q&A
  • Bring: your lunch, a pen and one task you keep putting off
  • You leave with: a plan for next week and one habit to try

Swap in your topic and takeaway. Cameras optional, questions welcome.

Lunch and learn questions

What is a lunch and learn?

A short, informal training session held over lunch, usually 45 to 60 minutes. People eat while a speaker or facilitator teaches one practical topic, then there is time for questions. It is a low-pressure way to build skills without pulling people out of their day.

How does a virtual lunch and learn work?

Everyone joins your video call with their lunch. A live facilitator teaches for most of the hour, runs a short exercise and takes questions. Ours run 60 minutes on Zoom by default, or on Teams, Google Meet or Webex on request. You send the link; we handle the session.

What are good lunch and learn topics?

The best topics solve a problem people have this week: time management, goal setting, public speaking, emotional intelligence, self-leadership and resilience are reliable picks. Wellbeing and DEI topics work well too. Our guide lists 60+ lunch and learn topics.

Do you provide the lunch?

No. We run the session; the food is up to you. Most teams expense a meal, send meal credits through their usual provider, or keep it bring-your-own.

How much does a lunch and learn cost?

Each session has one price for the group, shown on its page. Maximizing Time Management is $1,200 flat; Speak Up! Public Speaking Workshop is $850 for up to 25 people (about $34 each); The Art of Self-Leadership is $950 flat. Topics start at $850. You see the full price before you book, and a 50% deposit holds the date.

How long is a lunch and learn?

Our hosted sessions run 60 minutes, which leaves time for questions. The length of most experiences can be adjusted; ask us and we will send an updated quote.

Can you run a lunch and learn in the office?

Our workshops are live and virtual, so an office group can watch on a room screen while remote colleagues join from home. Put a camera and mic on the room so the facilitator can hear questions from there.

How far ahead should we book?

About 2 weeks ahead. If you want anything custom built for your team, allow about 4 weeks. If your date is sooner, ask anyway.
