Stress management or burnout workshop?

They sound alike but answer different problems. Pick by how long your team has been under pressure.

  • A stress management workshop

For teams under pressure right now.

Stress is the strain of a heavy day or week. A stress session is hands-on: people learn quick techniques they can use at their desk. Let's Stand Up to Stress gets everyone on their feet.

  • A burnout workshop

For teams that have been stretched for months.

The World Health Organization describes burnout as a result of chronic workplace stress that hasn't been managed. How To Avoid Burnout covers the signs and how to prevent it.

  • A mental health talk

    For a broader awareness moment.

New Approach to Mental Health looks at how inflammation, exercise, stress and nutrition connect to mental wellbeing. A good fit for an all-hands slot.

Mental Health Awareness Month activities, and the rest of the year

Awareness dates give mental health activities for employees a reason to happen. These four moments cover the year without overdoing it.

What these workshops are, and what they aren't

They are educational group sessions. A facilitator shares practical ideas, people try a few of them, and everyone leaves with language and habits they can use.

They are not therapy, counseling or crisis support, and nobody is diagnosed or treated. For individual help, point people to your employee assistance program or a licensed professional.

In the US, anyone in crisis can call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

How to run a mental health session well

  • Make it optional and private. Say in the invite that cameras are optional and nobody has to share anything personal.
  • Hold it in work time. A protected slot says more than asking people to give up a break.
  • Have leaders attend as participants. It shows the time is genuinely protected.
  • Close with support options. Share your employee assistance program (EAP) or benefits details at the end.
  • Follow up with one habit. A short note the next day keeps the session from fading.
