Sample offsite agendas

Work sessions are yours. These are the slots where a shared activity does the most good.

A 1-day company offsite

  1. 8:30

    Coffee and a quick icebreaker

Ten minutes, one question per person, mixed tables. Pick one from our icebreaker questions.

  2. 9:00

    The big picture

Leadership sets the two or three questions the day has to answer. Nothing else.

  3. 10:15

    Working session 1

Small groups, one problem each, a named note-taker. Report back in five minutes per group.

  4. 12:00

    Lunch, seated by mixed teams

Assign seats so people eat with someone outside their team. It sets up the afternoon.

  5. 1:00

    The team activity

Put the game straight after lunch, when energy dips. An hour of Feud Night or Team Trivia with your lunch tables as teams.

  6. 2:15

    Working session 2

Turn the morning's ideas into decisions, each with one owner and a date.

  7. 4:00

    Close the loop

Read back every decision and owner. Send the list the same evening, not next week.

  8. 4:30

    Optional: drinks and music

Keep it light: Music Bingo needs no explaining and lets people drift in and out.

Corporate retreat planning checklist

Counted back from the offsite date. Our lead times are firm; the rest is what experienced planners do.

  1. 3 to 6 months

Set the goal and book the venue

    • Write the one sentence the offsite must achieve.
    • Fix the date, headcount and budget per person.
    • Book the venue; bigger groups and overnight stays need the longest lead.
  2. 2 months

    Draft the agenda

    • Block the work sessions first, then one activity per half-day.
    • Decide how remote people join: a full virtual track or the room on a screen.
    • Send a save-the-date with travel details.
  3. 4 weeks

    Book anything custom

    • Custom trivia rounds or branded game slides need at least 4 weeks.
    • Confirm dietary needs and accessibility.
  4. 3 weeks

    Ship the kits

    • Kit workshops for remote attendees need 3 weeks; international addresses 3 to 4.
    • Collect shipping addresses now, not the week before.
  5. 2 weeks

    Lock the hosted activities

    • Hosted games, in person or virtual, need about 2 weeks.
    • Send the agenda and pre-reads to attendees.
  6. 1 week

    Final checks

    • Final headcount to the venue and to us.
    • Test the room screen, camera and video link for remote attendees.
    • Assign game teams that mix departments.
  7. After

    Follow through

    • Send decisions and owners within 24 hours.
    • A five-question survey while memories are fresh.

Remote attendees and hybrid offsites

Someone always can't make the flight. Plan for them on day one, not the night before.

Run the game on the video call with the room on a big screen, and every team mixes people in the room with people at home. Or give remote attendees their own live session and a kit at their door. See hybrid team building and global team building for time zones and international shipping.

  • A screen the whole room can see, with a camera and mic pointed at the room, not the presenter.
  • Run games on the video call, so remote players and the room are in the same game, and mix them on every team.
  • Ship remote attendees the same snacks or kit the room gets, so the day feels shared.
  • Test the link a day before from the actual room, on the actual screen.

Free retreat activities between sessions

Short resets that need nothing but a room and some sticky notes.

  • 10 minutes

    Rose, bud, thorn

Each person shares a recent win, something they're looking forward to, and one thing that's hard right now.
  • 5 minutes

    Silent line-up

Line up by the date you joined the company without saying a word. Then compare notes.
  • 15 minutes

    Walking one-on-ones

Pair people who rarely work together and send them on a walk with one question to answer.
  • 20 minutes

    The pre-mortem

Imagine it's a year from now and the plan failed. Each group lists why, then you fix the top three.
  • 10 minutes

    Keep, start, stop

Sticky notes on three walls: one thing the team should keep, start and stop doing. Vote with dots.
  • 5 minutes

    Thank-you wall

Everyone writes a named thank-you on a sticky note. Read a few out at the close.

Company offsite questions

What are good team building activities for a company retreat?

One shared activity per half-day works best: a hosted game like Feud Night or Team Trivia after lunch, a creative session like Canvas Painting on day two, and something light like Music Bingo in the evening. Add a live virtual session or a shipped kit for anyone who can't travel.

How do you plan a corporate retreat?

Start with one sentence the retreat must achieve, then fix the date, headcount and budget and book the venue 3 to 6 months out. Draft the agenda two months ahead with work sessions first and an activity per half-day, book custom content 4 weeks out, ship kits 3 weeks out, and lock hosted activities 2 weeks out.

What is the difference between a company offsite and a corporate retreat?

The words overlap. An offsite usually means a day or two of work away from the office, often for one team or the leadership group. A retreat usually means an overnight stay with more social and reflective time built in. The planning steps are the same.

Can you run activities at our offsite venue?

Yes. Our hosts run Feud Night, Team Trivia, Blitz-Speed Trivia, Music Bingo, Canvas Painting and Watercolor Card Decorating at your office, hotel or venue in 17 US cities. Somewhere else? Send us the city, date and headcount and we will look at options.

How do we include remote employees in an offsite?

Either run the activity on the video call with the room on a big screen, so remote people and the room play on the same teams, or give remote attendees their own live virtual session or a kit workshop shipped to their door. More in hybrid team building.

How far ahead should we book offsite activities?

Hosted games, in person or virtual, need about 2 weeks. Kit workshops need 3 weeks (3 to 4 for international addresses), and custom or branded content needs 4 weeks.

How much do offsite activities cost?

Feud Night starts at $1,750 for up to 50 people (about $35 each). Canvas Painting is $55 a person plus a $750 base fee. Quiz Showdown! starts at $975 for up to 25 people (about $39 each). Every card on this page shows its live price, you see the full price before you book, and a 50% deposit holds the date.
