Company-wide holiday email
Subject: Happy holidays, and thank you Hi everyone, As the year winds down, I want to say thank you. This year we [one or two real results: the launch, the new teammates you welcomed, the customers you helped]. None of that happened on its own. It happened because of the work you put in, often when nobody was watching. Our offices will be closed from [date] to [date]. If your role keeps you working that week, thank you. Please talk to your manager about taking that time back in January. However you spend the season, I hope you get real rest and time with the people who matter to you. I'm proud to work with this team, and I can't wait to see what we do next year. Happy holidays, [Name]
What to write when a gift goes with it
The note is the part people keep. Three rules, then six notes sized for a gift tag.
- Say what it's for. “For a year we couldn't have done without you” does more than “Enjoy!”
- Don't describe the gift. They can see it. Use the space for the thanks instead.
- Sign it with names. “From Dana, Luis and the support team” beats a logo.
145. For a year we couldn't have done without you. Happy holidays!
146. This doesn't cover everything you did this year, but it's a start. Enjoy, and happy holidays.
147. For the team that made this year work: something sweet to share over the break. Happy holidays from all of us.
148. Thank you for your partnership this year. We hope this adds something good to your holidays.
149. Open immediately. Share optionally. Happy holidays!
150. With thanks from everyone at [Company]. Enjoy it, and enjoy the break.

How to write holiday greetings and messages that sound like you
- Thank them for something real. Name one thing from the year: the launch, the shift they covered, the honest feedback. It turns a greeting into a message.
- Default to “happy holidays.” Name Christmas, Hanukkah or Kwanzaa only when you know the person celebrates it.
- Match the length to the place. One line in Slack, two or three sentences in a card, under 150 words in an email.
- Send it before people log off. Clients in the first half of December, your own team on the last working day before the break.
- End on rest, not on January. Close with the break, their family or the new year. Leave the to-do list for the first week back.
What to leave out, even in a funny one:
- Religious wording, unless you know it's welcome.
- Jokes about drinking, diets or what anyone is spending.
- Bonuses, raises or anything else about pay.
- A reminder about January deadlines tacked onto the end.
- The same pasted line for everyone in one group thread.
