Happy Thanksgiving messages to your team and employees

A happy Thanksgiving message to the team works best when it thanks people for something real and gives them permission to switch off.

From a manager, to the team

For the team channel, the last standup before the break or a short email. Fill in the brackets.

  1. Happy Thanksgiving, team. This year asked a lot of you, and you showed up every time. Enjoy a real break.

  2. Before we log off for the long weekend: thank you. I don't say it often enough, and I mean it every week.

  3. Happy Thanksgiving to the people who make my job easy. Rest up, eat well and don't check email.

  4. I'm thankful for a team that asks good questions, covers for each other and laughs at my jokes anyway. Happy Thanksgiving.

  5. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. Whether you're hosting twenty people or enjoying a quiet couple of days, I hope it's exactly what you need.

  6. As we head into the holiday, I want to name one thing: the way this team helped each other through [project] is the reason it worked. Thank you.

  7. Happy Thanksgiving, team. Laptops closed, notifications off. That's an instruction, not a suggestion.

  8. Thank you for a year of good work and good humor. Have a happy Thanksgiving, and come back rested.

  9. I'm grateful for each of you, for the work and for how you treat each other. Happy Thanksgiving.

  10. Wishing you a long weekend full of good food, good company and zero meetings. Happy Thanksgiving, team.

  11. Happy Thanksgiving. If you're not celebrating, I hope the quiet days off are restful too. Thank you for everything you do.

  12. This team made a hard quarter feel manageable. I'm thankful for that, and for you. Enjoy the holiday.

  14. Thank you for trusting me with this team. It's the part of my job I'm most thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving.

  15. Happy Thanksgiving! Go enjoy the people you love, the food you like and the naps you've earned.

  16. Before the long weekend, a thank-you to everyone who stayed late, picked up extra work or checked in on a teammate this fall.

  17. Happy Thanksgiving, team. I hope you get the window seat on every flight and the last slice of pie.

  18. To the new people on the team: thank you for jumping in so quickly. To everyone else: thank you for making them feel welcome. Happy Thanksgiving.

  19. Happy Thanksgiving. I'm grateful to work with people I'd happily share a table with.

  20. Thank you for another year of showing up for our customers and for each other. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

When to send Thanksgiving messages at work

Thanksgiving 2026 is Thursday, November 26. Count back from there.

  • Team and company messages: by Tuesday, November 24. Many US offices close Thursday and Friday, and people start leaving on Wednesday. A Tuesday note reaches everyone before the out-of-office replies start.
  • Client messages: the week before, or early in Thanksgiving week. Around November 19 to November 23, your note arrives while people still read email. A Wednesday afternoon message gets buried under everyone else's.
  • A team card: start it by Thursday, November 19. A card needs a few days to collect signatures, especially from people who are hybrid or remote. Use the short card lines above.
  • Out of office: set it before you leave on Wednesday, November 25. Give the date you're back, not just “after the holiday,” and name one person to contact for anything urgent.
A hand writing a thank-you card on a desk beside a small pumpkin and autumn leaves.

Keep it welcoming for everyone

  • Lead with thanks, not with the holiday. Gratitude works for everyone; a turkey reference doesn't have to.
  • US Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November. Canada's is the second Monday of October, and most other countries don't mark it, so teammates and clients outside the US are likely working that week.
  • For some people the holiday is complicated or lonely. Wish people a good break rather than assuming a big family table.
  • In a company email, add a line for the people who keep things running over the holiday.
  • Keep it optional: share a dish, a photo or nothing at all.

Want to mark the week together, not just in writing? Our Thanksgiving games for work and Thanksgiving team building ideas fit into a lunch hour, and our gratitude activities work any time of year.

Send a thank-you gift with your message

For a client who carried your year or a team that earned more than a card, a gift box with your note inside says it better.

  • Quogue Luxury Gift Box (X-Small) by Hampton Chocolate FactoryFor every client contact$22
  • The Bridgehampton by Hampton Chocolate FactoryFor each person on your team$38
  • Quogue Luxury Gift Box (Medium) by Hampton Chocolate FactoryThe standard client gift$58
  • The Southampton by Hampton Chocolate FactoryFor a key account or a top partner$132

Prices are per gift, before shipping. Browse every box by budget in our client gifts and employee appreciation gifts. Smaller unbranded orders need about 2 to 3 weeks, and branded or 100+ gift orders 4 to 6 weeks. For gifts that arrive by Monday, November 23, before people leave for the holiday, order unbranded boxes by about November 2, and branded or 100+ gift orders by October 26 at the latest.

Thanksgiving messages FAQ

How do you say happy Thanksgiving to your team?

Thank them for something specific, wish them a real break and tell them not to check email: “Happy Thanksgiving, team. This year asked a lot of you, and you showed up every time. Enjoy a real break.” Send it on the Tuesday, before people start leaving. Keep it short enough to read on a phone.

What is a good Thanksgiving message for employees?

A leadership message should thank people for the year, mention anything concrete (a milestone, a day off, a gift) and work for people who don't celebrate. “Whether you celebrate Thanksgiving or simply enjoy the long weekend” covers everyone. There are 15 company-wide versions above.

What should a Thanksgiving out of office message say?

Say you're out for Thanksgiving, give the exact date you're back and name one person to contact for urgent matters. A funny Thanksgiving out of office message is fine as long as those three facts are there. For more, see our funny out of office messages.

What do you write in a Thanksgiving card for a coworker?

One short line of thanks and a wish for the holiday: “Grateful to work with you” or “Rest up and enjoy the pie.” If you have room, name one thing they helped with this year. A specific thank-you is the line people remember.

What is a good Thanksgiving message to clients?

Thank them for their trust and their business, keep it about them rather than your sales goals and send it the week before the holiday. For international clients, “whether or not you celebrate Thanksgiving” keeps it welcoming. A small gift with the note goes further, and our client gifts page has options by budget.

When is Thanksgiving?

US Thanksgiving is on the fourth Thursday of November, so the date changes every year and always falls between November 22 and 28. Canadian Thanksgiving is the second Monday of October. Many US companies also give the Friday after Thanksgiving off.

How do you write an inclusive Thanksgiving message at work?

Lead with gratitude rather than the holiday itself, wish people a good break instead of assuming a family gathering and acknowledge anyone working over the holiday. Then make any activity optional. For ideas that work for the whole team, see our gratitude activities.
