A virtual magic show on Zoom: the magician holds up cards while a gallery of colleagues reacts

What happens in a virtual magic show

It is not a webinar with a magician in it. The best online shows are built around the people watching.

  1. 01

    Magic from the first minute

No long warm-up. The magic starts in the first moments, which is how you win over a room on video.

  2. 02

    Everyone plays a part

The choices people make at home, a number, a word, an object from the desk, become the material for the tricks.

  3. 03

    Volunteers on camera

The magician brings people into the spotlight one at a time, so colleagues watch someone they know get fooled.

  4. 04

    Reveals the whole room sees

Predictions and mind reading land for everyone at once, in the chat and on camera. Expect a lot of shouting.

Try a trick before the show

Grab a pen. Follow five steps and the envelope will know your number. Then do it to your team at the start of your next meeting.

It is a classic number force, a long way from what a pro does live. For mind reading that gets the whole room shouting, book one of the two shows above.

Step 1 of 5

Grab a pen. Write down any three-digit number whose first and last digits differ by at least 2.

Planning a virtual magic show

A show needs less setup than a game, but these five things decide whether it feels like a live event or a stream.

  • Zoom by default. Teams, Google Meet or Webex on request; share your link with your event manager after booking.
  • Cameras on, gallery view. Half the fun is watching colleagues react, so ask people to join on a laptop rather than a phone.
  • Let the performer in early. Someone with host rights should be on a few minutes before the start; a quick tech check can be booked ahead.
  • Hybrid room? Put the show on a big screen with a camera on the room, so the magician can see and pick volunteers there too.
  • Book about 2 weeks ahead. Custom content needs about 4 weeks.

Audience size

A show is one of the few formats that scales without changing: a small team gets more volunteer moments, a big all-hands gets a bigger roar. The price is the same flat fee either way.

Where a magic show fits

A show gives everyone the same story to talk about. Pair it with a moment where they actually talk.

  • All-hands opener

Open a company meeting with the show, then get to the agenda while people are still talking about it. The hour sets the tone for everything after.

  • Holiday party headliner

Make the show the main act, then split into teams for a game like Quiz Showdown! so people talk to each other, not just watch. More in virtual holiday party ideas.

  • Client appreciation event

A polished show is an easy thing to invite clients to. See how we run client events with your brand on them.

Virtual magic show questions

What is a virtual magic show?

A live magician performs for your team over a video call, with mind reading, sleight of hand and predictions built for the screen. The audience takes part from home: their choices, objects and volunteers drive the tricks. Ours run about an hour.

How does a magician do magic over Zoom?

Good virtual magicians design tricks for the camera. Sleight of hand happens close to the lens, and the mind reading and predictions use choices people make at home, so the reveal lands on their own screen. That is why it feels more personal than watching a stage show.

Is a virtual magic show interactive?

Yes. Both of our magicians bring volunteers on camera and build tricks around the audience's choices, so people take part rather than just watch.

How much does a virtual magic show cost?

The Actual Virtual Magic Show is $3,200 flat, and Illusionist is $3,200 flat, for the whole audience. You see the full price before you book, and a 50% deposit holds the date.

Who are the magicians?

The Actual Virtual Magic Show is performed by Alan Hudson, seen on Britain's Got Talent and a winner of Penn & Teller: Fool Us. Illusionist is performed by Kevin Blake, featured on America's Got Talent and Penn & Teller: Fool Us.

How long is the show, and can it be shorter?

About an hour. The length of most experiences can be adjusted; ask us and we will send an updated quote.

Which video platforms work?

Zoom by default; Microsoft Teams, Google Meet or Webex on request. For a hybrid group, put the show on a room screen with a camera on the room and test the link beforehand.

How far ahead should we book?

About 2 weeks ahead. If your date is sooner, ask anyway: we can sometimes fit you in.
