What happens in a virtual improv workshop
What each hour covers, as the workshop descriptions put it. No scripts to learn and nothing to prepare.
Improv
Any time of year: new teams, communication skills, a kickoff
- 1Bring the “Yes, and” habit into everyday work
- 2Use storytelling to get a specific message across
- 3Present work to others
- 4Respond to unexpected situations
Christmas Comedy Workshop
The holiday party, in November and December
- 1Why we laugh, and how a joke is built
- 2Timing, wording and misdirection
- 3Writing your own Christmas cracker jokes
- 4Delivering them to the group
Christmas crackers are a British holiday table tradition: a paper tube two people pull apart with a snap, holding a paper crown, a small gift and a joke.
Who improv team building suits
No acting experience needed. It works best when people should talk to each other more than they do.
New or merged teams
People who barely know each other build on each other's ideas, and the first laugh does the introducing.
Communication training
Improv for corporate training: “Yes, and,” storytelling, presenting and handling the unexpected, practiced instead of lectured.
The holiday party
The Christmas Comedy Workshop gives the party an hour everyone takes part in, not another slideshow.
A kickoff or offsite slot
A one-hour break in a long day of updates that gets people talking to each other again.
Booking details

- Book at least 14 days ahead. December dates fill first.
- Split across time zones? Book two sessions so everyone plays in their own workday.
- Hybrid works: put the office group in front of one screen the host can see and hear.
- Reserve with a 50% deposit. Rescheduling is free at least 2 days before your event.
Free improv games to try first
- What are you doing? One person mimes an action. The next asks “What are you doing?” and gets a different action as the answer, which they must start miming.
- I am a treeSomeone strikes a pose and says “I am a tree.” Two people add to the picture (“I am the apple,” “I am the worm”), then a new picture starts.
- Dubbed sceneOne player mutes and acts out a short scene, mouth moving. A partner speaks their lines out loud, and the actor has to follow whatever the voice says.

Virtual improv questions
What is improv team building, and does it help teams?
Improv team building uses the games improvisers train with to practice listening, building on each other's ideas and handling surprises. Our Improv class works on the “Yes, and” habit, storytelling, presenting and responding to the unexpected.
Do people need acting or comedy experience? Will shy people be put on the spot?
No experience is needed: the host leads the team through a series of activities, so nobody has to come prepared. The Christmas Comedy Workshop is built to be relaxed and inclusive for introverts and extroverts alike. If your group is shy, tell us when you book.
Does virtual improv work on Zoom or Teams?
Yes. Sessions run on Zoom by default, or Microsoft Teams, Google Meet or Webex on request. Ask everyone to join with camera and microphone on, since improv runs on reacting to each other. The Christmas Comedy host needs permission to share a screen.
How much does a virtual improv workshop cost?

How long is a session, and how many people can join?

Is this a virtual comedy show?
Not quite: both are workshops your team takes part in, led by a professional host. If you'd rather sit back and watch, a live virtual magic show is the closest thing we run to a show.
Can the session focus on our goals, like presenting or listening?
The Improv class already covers presenting, storytelling and responding to the unexpected. Tell us your goal when you book and we'll check with the host what fits.
How far ahead do we need to book, and can we reschedule?
