Team building for construction companies

Team building for construction companies works best in the slow season, on a day the office and the field crews are in one room: the holiday party or the pre-season meeting. Book a 60 minute hosted game with mixed teams, or send kits home so families can join.

8 construction team building activities

Games a mixed room of office staff and crews can play, and kits people make at home. Every one has a live host, and prices are live from our catalog.

Hosted games need about 2 weeks; kit workshops about 3 weeks for US addresses. See all activities.

Office staff and field crews keep different days

Estimators and project managers sit at desks; crews are on job sites from early morning. Plan for both halves, then bring them together.

  • Office

    Estimating, project management, accounting

They keep office hours, so a 60 minute session over lunch reaches them. Stay clear of big bid due dates.
  • Field

    Crews on job sites

They start early and end the day tired. An evening call won't land. Use a paid morning at the shop in the slow season, or a kit at home.
  • Field leaders

    Superintendents and foremen

A small group that runs the work. A goal-setting workshop before the season gives them an hour together off site.
  • Everyone

Office and field in one room

The pre-season meeting and the holiday party are the two days both halves show up. Mix them on every team.

What we run, and what we don't

  • We run seated hosted games, workshops and kits, about 60 minutes each, with a live host.
  • We don't run outdoor challenges, sports days or anything on a job site.
  • Nothing we run is safety training or counts toward any required training.
  • Crews spread across job sites and trucks? See team building for field teams.

Plan it for the slow season

The busy season fills every crew's week. The quiet weeks are when people can show up, so book those early.

  1. Dec 18, 2026

    The holiday party

For Friday, December 18, book a hosted game by December 4, 2026, or a kit workshop by November 27, 2026.
  2. Jan 20, 2027

    The slow weeks

Where winter slows outdoor work, January and February are the easiest weeks to get crews in a room. For Wednesday, January 20, 2027, book a hosted game by January 6.
  3. Feb 26, 2027

    The pre-season company meeting

One morning for everyone before the season starts. For Friday, February 26, 2027, book a hosted game by February 12, 2027.
  4. Spring to fall 2027

Keep it small in the busy season

A lunch session for the office, or a kit crews make at home on a weekend. Fit it around the schedule, not over it.

A pre-season company meeting, with a game in it

One morning before the first jobs start. Most of it is yours; the hour in the middle is ours.

  1. 7:00

    Breakfast as crews arrive

At the shop, the yard building or a rented hall.
  2. 7:30

    The owner's update

Last season, the backlog and the big jobs coming up.
  3. 8:15

    Your safety session

Run by your own safety lead. We don't run safety training, and the game is not part of it.
  4. 9:15

    Break

Set up the screen and the speaker, join the call, test the sound.
  5. 9:30

    A 60 minute hosted game

Mixed teams: one office person, one foreman and one newer hand on each. The host runs it on the big screen.
  6. 10:30

    Awards and send-off

Thank last season's crews by name, then everyone heads out.

Where to play. Put the host on a projector or a TV in the shop, with a speaker loud enough for the back row. One laptop joins the call, and one person per team writes the answers.

Why mixed teams. Field and office rarely sit together. A game where an estimator needs a foreman's answer gets them talking before the season does.

For field leaders. On another winter day, give superintendents and foremen their own hour with Goal Setting & Goal Getting, a hosted goal-setting workshop, $1,200 flat for the group.

A holiday party for the office, the crews and their families

The one event the whole company comes to. Three ways to run it, and what families should know.

  • A host at your office or shop

In 17 US cities a host runs Feud Night, Music Bingo or live trivia at your place, and painting workshops run in 30 cities. Feud Night is $1,750 for up to 50 guests. See in-person events.
  • A kit night at home with the family

A gingerbread house or cookie kit ships to each home, and families decorate together on video. Continental US shipping is included. More on the virtual holiday party page.
  • Several yards on one call

Each yard or office joins the same hosted game on its own screen and plays as a team, so a crew two hours away still takes part.

Family-friendly kits

  • Cookie and gingerbread kits are made for the kitchen table, and kids can decorate alongside.
  • Wood burning uses a hot tool and needs a 120v outlet. Keep it to adults.
  • Collect home addresses early. Kits need them about 2 weeks before the event.
  • Canada, Alaska and Hawaii addresses are an added shipping charge per kit.

Construction team building questions

What are good team building activities for construction companies?

Seated hosted games that mix office staff and field crews on the same teams, like trivia or a survey-answer game show, about 60 minutes with a live host. Kit workshops such as painting or wood burning suit crews who like hands-on work, and cookie or gingerbread kits bring families in.

When should a construction company hold team building?

In the slow season. Where winter slows outdoor work, the holiday party, the January and February weeks and a pre-season company meeting are the days crews and office staff can be in one room.

How do field crews take part?

Hold it on a paid morning at the shop in the slow season, or send a kit home for a weekend session. Crews at other yards join the same video call on their own screen as a team.

Can we book an event for a rained-out day?

Not on the day. Hosted games book about 2 weeks ahead and kit workshops about 3 weeks for US addresses, so pick a week you know is slow instead.

How much does construction team building cost?

A hosted virtual game is one package for up to 25 guests (Trivia with a Twist is $975), with added guests in blocks. Kit workshops are a base fee plus a price per kit, with continental US shipping included. Each activity page shows the price for your headcount.

Can a host come to our office or shop?

In 17 US cities a host can run Feud Night, Music Bingo or live trivia at your place, and painting workshops run in 30 cities. Feud Night is $1,750 for up to 50 guests.

Do you run outdoor or physical team building?

No. Our events are hosted games, workshops and kits, played seated, and nothing we run is safety training. If you want an outdoor challenge, we are not the right fit for that part of your plan.
