Teams often split between Irvine, Costa Mesa, Newport Beach and Anaheim or Brea. The offices look close on a map, but the drive between them is slow at rush hour. Host at the office where most people sit, and send the others parking directions with the invite.
Most people drive, and I‑405, I‑5 and SR‑55 back up at both rush hours, worst around the Airport Area and the El Toro Y, where the 5 and the 405 meet. A party that starts at 10 and ends at noon misses both.

Yes, and it often suits the drive better. A 10 am to noon party starts after the morning rush on the 405 and the 5 and ends before the afternoon one, so nobody spends the evening in traffic. Lunch on the patio afterward makes it feel like a party, and staff who live far away get home at a normal hour.
