Gifts for prospects, before and after the first meeting
A good gift for a prospect is small, under $40 for a first gift, sent to the address they give you with a two-line note, and never tied to a meeting or a decision. Ours start at $22.
What makes a gift for a prospect welcome
A prospect owes you nothing yet. A small gift can earn a reply or thank someone for an hour of their time, as long as it comes with no conditions.
No strings
Never offer a gift in exchange for a meeting, a demo or a decision. Send it either way, and say so.
Only the address they give you
Ask, "Can I send something small to your office?" Never look up a home address on your own.
Keep it modest
A first gift under $40 and nothing over $100. A big gift to someone who owes you nothing reads as pressure.
Check what they can accept
Many employers cap gifts from suppliers or ban them during a purchase. When unsure, ask your contact first.
Sales prospecting gifts under $100
Real prices per gift, before shipping and branding. Most teams pick one gift under $40 for every first send.
Under $40: a first gift to one person
Small enough to accept anywhere gifts are allowed, and big enough to be noticed on a desk.

For a buying team that gave you an hour, a demo or a site visit. Send one box to the office, not one per person.

Every gift is chocolate. If you don't know the person, a box for the office is safer than a gift for one diet.

When to send a gift in a sales cycle
Four moments that work, and one that never does. Unbranded orders take about 2 to 3 weeks, so send the thank-you email the same day and let the gift follow.
| Moment | What to send | More |
|---|---|---|
| Before a first meeting | After they reply or a colleague introduces you. Ask where to send it, and say it comes with no strings. | |
| After a discovery call or demo | A thank-you for their time, sent the same week, with the next step you promised in the note. | |
| After a site visit or workshop | One box to their office for the people who sat in the room. | |
| When they have news | A promotion, a new role or a company milestone. Congratulations only, no pitch. | Promotion gifts |
| During an RFP, bid or negotiation | Don't send. Wait until the decision is made, then welcome them or thank them for considering you. | Client welcome gifts |
B2B gifts for prospects: what their employer allows
Many buyers work under gift rules, and the strictest ones apply while you are selling to them. General information, not legal or tax advice.
Federal agencies
Federal ethics rules (5 CFR 2635.203) count anyone who "does business or seeks to do business" with an agency as a prohibited source. 5 CFR 2635.204 lets an employee accept unsolicited gifts of $20 or less per source per occasion, up to $50 a year from one source. Our smallest gift is $22, so don't send one to a federal buyer.
State, local and public schools
Rules differ by state, city and district, and many are stricter than the federal ones. Ask your contact or their ethics office before you send anything.
Healthcare, finance and other regulated buyers
Hospitals, banks, insurers and drug and device makers often set their own supplier gift limits. Ask your contact what their policy allows.
Your own company
Many sales teams have a gift policy and a yearly cap per contact. IRS Publication 463 (2025) says you can deduct no more than $25 for business gifts to each person during your tax year. Check with your compliance or ethics office.
Read the federal rules as published: 5 CFR 2635.203 and 5 CFR 2635.204, and IRS Publication 463. Gift etiquette once they become a client is on client gifts.
The note and the address
Two lines and your name. The note is what they remember, so keep the pitch out of it.
- Ask where to send it: the office, or home if they work remotely.
- Use only the address they give you.
- Put your logo on the ribbon or an insert, not the gift.
- Branding needs 4 to 6 weeks; see custom logo gifts.
Notes to copy
Before a meeting, after a call, after a visit.
- I'd like 20 minutes to show you how we handle [problem]. Either way, enjoy these with the team. [Your name]
- Thank you for the time on [day] and for walking me through [their goal]. I'll send [next step] by [date]. [Your name]
- Thanks to you and the team for hosting us on [day]. This box is for sharing. [Your name]
Sending to a list of target accounts
For an account-based campaign or a list from an event, each gift ships to its own address. Volume and timing are on bulk corporate gifts.
Pick one gift. One gift under $40 for the whole list keeps it fair and simple.
Send us one spreadsheet. Name, company, the address each person gave you, and the note.
Each gift ships on its own. Minimums are typically 10 per gift.
Plan the lead time. About 2 to 3 weeks for smaller unbranded orders, 4 to 6 weeks for 100 or more gifts or anything with your logo.
Questions about gifts for prospects
What are good gifts for prospects?
Something small that the person can enjoy or share at work: a chocolate box under $40 for one person, or a box for the team after a meeting. Add a two-line note and keep your logo on the ribbon or an insert, not the gift.
How much should you spend on a gift for a prospect?
Keep it modest: under $40 for a first gift and no more than $100 for a team after a meeting. Our gifts for prospects run from $22 to $98. A bigger gift to someone who hasn't bought from you yet can look like pressure.
Is it OK to send a gift to get a meeting?
Send it to start a conversation, not as a trade. Never offer a gift in exchange for a meeting, a demo or a decision; many employers treat that as a conflict of interest. Say the gift comes either way.
Can government employees accept gifts from a company selling to them?
Federal rules count a company seeking business with an agency as a prohibited source, and generally limit unsolicited gifts to $20 per occasion and $50 a year from one source (5 CFR 2635.203 and 2635.204). Our smallest gift is $22, so don't send one. State and local rules vary; check with their ethics office.
Should a prospect gift go to the office or home?
Use only the address the prospect gives you. Ask whether they want it at the office or at home, especially if they work remotely, and never look up a home address yourself.
What should a note to a prospect say?
Two lines: why you are reaching out or thanking them, and your name. Before a meeting, say they can enjoy it either way. After one, name what you talked about and the next step you promised.
Can we send gifts to a whole list of target accounts?
Yes. Send us one spreadsheet with each name, address and note, and every gift ships on its own. Minimums are typically 10 per gift. Allow about 2 to 3 weeks for smaller unbranded orders, and 4 to 6 weeks for 100 or more gifts or anything with your logo.
Are prospect gifts tax deductible?
Partly. IRS Publication 463 (2025) says you can deduct no more than $25 for business gifts to each person during your tax year. This is general information, not tax advice: check with your accountant.
