How to import these questions into Kahoot

Five steps, as Kahoot's import help page describes them. Menu names can change, so check that page if a button has moved.

  1. Get the template. Download Kahoot's official spreadsheet template from its import help page and open it in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers or LibreOffice.
  2. Paste a set. Press a set's copy button below, click the first question cell (the example question under the headers) and paste. Each row fills the question, four answers, the time limit and the right answer's number. Paste a second set into the next empty row.
  3. Save as .xlsx. In Google Sheets, use File, then Download, then Microsoft Excel.
  4. Import it. In Kahoot, click Create, then Add in the left panel, then Import, and choose Import spreadsheet at the bottom.
  5. Upload and check. Drop in the file. Kahoot flags any row it can't read, and you can fix it or skip it.

How to run a fun Kahoot at work

  • For a 10-minute meeting opener, play 10 to 15 questions on 20-second timers.
  • Start with an easy question so late joiners still score.
  • Mix two sets: one everyone knows, one with odd facts, so trivia buffs don't sweep it.
  • After the reveal, read out the one-line why where a question has one. It is half the fun.
  • Turn on double points for the last question to keep the leaderboard open.
  • Playing with remote and office people together? Share the host screen on the call so everyone sees the same question.
A remote worker at a sunny home desk pumps her fist at her laptop as her dog naps behind her.

Want a round about the team itself? Collect answers in a short form first, then use four teammates’ names as the options. For games that need no app at all, try our question games or online party games.

Want a host instead of a self-run quiz?

A self-run kahoot is great for ten minutes. For a party or an all-hands, someone has to write the questions, run the screen and chase the free plan’s player cap, and that person never gets to play. Our hosts write the questions and run the game live.

Quiz Showdown! has teams race the clock and each other, the closest feel to a quiz app. Christmas Trivia Party mixes holiday movies, music, traditions and picture clues. Both run 1 hour on Zoom by default (Teams, Google Meet or Webex on request), and teams split across time zones can book two sessions. Book about 2 weeks ahead, earlier for December, because those dates fill first. At the office, Blitz-Speed Trivia has everyone answer on their phones, and the faster you answer, the more you score, in 17 US cities.

Running a bigger quiz yourself? Our guide to how to host a trivia night has a run of show and a score sheet.

Kahoot questions FAQ

What are good Kahoot questions?

Good Kahoot questions have one clearly right answer, read in a few seconds and come with three wrong options that sound possible. Stick to settled facts rather than numbers that change every year, and start with an easy one so everybody scores early.

What are some funny Kahoot questions to ask?

Odd-but-true facts work best, because the laugh comes from the answer, not from a joke at someone's expense. Try the funny animal set and the odd but true set on this page, or our funny multiple choice questions for more.

What are good Kahoot topics?

The 12 sets here cover the topics that play well with any group: animals, food, geography, science, spelling, movies, music, sports, history, work life and the holidays. For a team game, add one round about your own company or industry.

How many characters can a Kahoot question have?

Kahoot's help center says a Quiz question can be up to 120 characters and each answer up to 75. Every question on this page fits those limits, so nothing gets cut off when you paste it in.

How many players can join a free Kahoot?

Kahoot's help center says free accounts are usually capped at 10 to 40 players, depending on the account type, and a free business account limits games you create to 3 players. Limits change, so check its participant page before a big game.

How do I import questions into Kahoot from a spreadsheet?

Download Kahoot's template, paste in your rows, save it as an .xlsx file, then in the kahoot creator click Add, Import and Import spreadsheet. Only standard Quiz questions import. The copy buttons on this page give you rows in the template's column order.

What are good Kahoot questions about yourself?

Send a short, optional form a few days before, then turn the answers into Quiz questions with four teammates' names as the options. Our Kahoot alternatives guide has 20 ready prompts for questions about the team.
