Team building for pharmaceutical and biotech companies

Team building for pharmaceutical companies works best as a hosted 60 minute event that lab, clinical, regulatory and commercial staff can all join: a game on video across sites and time zones, a kit shipped to each home, or a host at your site. It is for your own employees, which keeps it apart from the rules on hospitality for health care professionals.

8 activities for pharma and biotech teams

Games that work across sites, a team challenge for functions that never meet, and kits with no alcohol in the box. Every one has a live host, and prices are live from our catalog.

Hosted games need about 2 weeks; kit workshops about 3 weeks for US addresses. See all activities.

Lab, clinical, regulatory and commercial: four calendars

Biotech and pharma teams rarely share a schedule. Plan around the function with the least room, then invite everyone else.

  • Research and lab

    Book around the bench

Experiments and runs keep their own clock. Pick a late morning or mid afternoon slot and let people join from a meeting room, not the lab floor.
  • Clinical operations

    Plan around site visits

Monitors and study managers travel to sites. A video event they join from a hotel or home works better than one that needs a conference room.
  • Regulatory and quality

Wait until the filing is in

Nobody on a submission team wants a game in the final week. Book the week after it goes in and make the event the thank you.
  • Commercial and field

Use a meeting already on the calendar

Reps are on the road all week. Add 60 minutes to a regional call or a Friday afternoon. More on team building for field teams.

Global sites: times that work for two regions

Life sciences teams often span the US, Europe and Asia. These times hold from November 1, 2026 to March 13, 2027; check again once US clocks change on March 14.

  • US and Europe

    11:00 a.m. Eastern is 8:00 a.m. Pacific, 4:00 p.m. in London and 5:00 p.m. in Basel.
  • US East and India

8:30 a.m. Eastern is 7:00 p.m. in India: the start of one workday and the end of the other.
  • US and Japan

7:00 p.m. Eastern is 4:00 p.m. Pacific and 9:00 a.m. the next morning in Tokyo.
  • Europe and India

    10:00 a.m. in London is 11:00 a.m. in Basel and 3:30 p.m. in India.

Three regions at once rarely works. Run the same event twice instead, each with its own live host. Shipping a kit to Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, US territories or another country is an added charge per kit, and each activity page lists where it ships. More on global team building.

An employee event is not health care professional hospitality

Pharma teams are careful with anything that looks like entertainment, and for good reason.

The PhRMA Code on interactions with health care professionals (effective January 1, 2022) says companies should not give entertainment or recreational items to a health care professional who is not a salaried employee of the company. A team event for your own staff is a different thing. This is general information, not legal advice: check with your compliance team.

  • Keep the guest list to your own employees. That is what makes it a staff event.
  • Inviting outside speakers, consultants, investigators or customers? Ask your compliance team first.
  • If your policy limits alcohol at company events, pick a coffee, tea or craft kit instead of a cocktail kit.
  • Kits shipped to employees' homes may fall under your gift policy. Check the limit before you book.
  • Keep the invoice and guest list together, so finance can see who attended and what it cost.

Milestones worth marking

Drug development runs in long stretches with a few big days. Those days are the best time to bring a team together.

  • A submission goes in

The filing team has worked nights for weeks. A hosted game the week after is a thank you they can join from home.
  • A trial reads out

Whatever the result, the study team spent years on it. A calm kit session marks the end of a long chapter.
  • A launch or an approval

Bring research, medical and commercial together for one game, with every site on the same call.
  • A new site or a merger

Two groups that just became one team need to meet. Mixed-team puzzles and a scavenger hunt help. See new hire onboarding activities.

What it costs for 25, 50 and 100 people

Pharma and biotech team building questions

What is good team building for pharmaceutical companies?

A hosted 60 minute event that every function can join: trivia or a team puzzle game on video for sites in several time zones, a kit workshop shipped to each home, or a scavenger hunt in mixed teams to bring research and commercial together. A live host runs it, so nobody in the department has to plan the content.

Does the PhRMA Code apply to an internal team event?

The PhRMA Code covers how companies interact with health care professionals. It says companies should not give entertainment or recreational items to a health care professional who is not a salaried employee. An event for your own employees is a different thing. This is general information, not legal advice: check with your compliance team.

How do we include sites in Europe, India or Japan?

Pick a time that works for two regions, like 11:00 a.m. Eastern for the US and Europe, or run the same event twice. Many kits ship to Canada and other countries for an added charge per kit (each activity page lists where), with addresses due 4 weeks before the event.

How much does team building cost for a pharma department?

A hosted virtual game is one package for up to 25 guests, with added guests in blocks. Trivia with a Twist is $975 for up to 25 guests and $1,635 for 100. Kit workshops are a base fee plus a price per kit, with continental US shipping included. Each activity page shows the price for your headcount.

Can we avoid alcohol?

Yes. Every game on this page is alcohol free, and kits like coffee tasting, terrariums, herb gardens and candles have no alcohol in the box.

Can a host come to our site?

In 17 US cities a host can run Feud Night, Music Bingo or live trivia in a conference room or cafeteria, and painting workshops run in 30 cities. Check your site's visitor and safety rules first.

How do we pay?

Reserve online with a 50% deposit by card, or ask for a quote and pay by invoice against a purchase order. Companies that book across many teams can use monthly invoicing.
