A team chant is a short line a group shouts together on a beat, usually as call and response: one person calls, everyone answers. The best ones for work are under ten words, use the team’s name and run on a clap or a stomp anyone can follow. Below are 50 original chants and cheers for sales kickoffs, all-hands meetings, sports days and video calls, all written for coworkers, with nothing aimed at anyone.

Type your team name, pick the occasion and copy the chant you like.

Team chants for video calls

Voices lag on Zoom and Teams, so a shouted chant turns into a jumble. These versions put the answer in the chat or on camera instead.

  1. 45. Countdown wave. The leader counts down from three on camera, and everyone waves on zero.
  2. 46. Chat roll call. Everyone types the team name in the chat at the same moment; the leader reads out who was first.
  3. 47. Emoji answer. The leader calls a word like "Quarter?" and everyone answers with one emoji.
  4. 48. Mug check. The leader says "Coffee check!" and the team raises whatever is in their mugs.
  5. 49. Slow clap build. One person starts a slow clap on camera; everyone joins and speeds up until someone laughs.
  6. 50. Unmute on three. Everyone unmutes and shouts the team name together; the jumble is half the fun.

How to write your own team chant

Six steps, about ten minutes, and one brave person to lead it the first time.

  1. Start with the name. One to three syllables shout best. A long name works as a nickname or as initials.
  2. Pick a beat. Four beats is enough: clap, clap, stomp, shout. Say the line over it once.
  3. Keep it under ten words. If people need a slide to remember it, it's a speech, not a chant.
  4. Make it call and response. One person leads, the room answers, so nobody has to learn the whole thing.
  5. Test it out loud. Say it three times fast and cut any word someone trips on.
  6. Keep it kind. Cheer for your team, never against a coworker, a department or a rival's looks.

Want a line to write down rather than shout, for a slide, a shirt or a channel header? That’s a motto: see team mottos and slogans.

Team chants FAQ

What is a good team chant?

A good team chant is under ten words, uses the team's name, and runs on a beat anyone can clap. Call and response works best at work: one person calls a line and the whole team shouts the answer.

What is the difference between a cheer and a chant?

A chant is a short line the group repeats on a beat, often as call and response. A cheer is a single shout, like a word or a short phrase, to start or end something. Cheer squads use both.

What are some short cheer words for a team?

Onward, All in, Ship it, Go time, Nailed it and Let's roll all work as one-breath cheers to close a huddle or a stand-up.

How do you lead a team chant without it feeling awkward?

Go first and go loud, explain the reply once, and run it twice: the second time is always louder. Keep it optional for anyone who would rather clap than shout.

Can you do a team chant on Zoom or Teams?

Yes, but voices lag on a video call, so use a version where the team answers in the chat or on camera: a countdown wave, a chat roll call or an emoji answer.

What is the difference between a team chant and a team motto?

A chant is shouted together in the moment. A motto is a short line you write down, on a slide, a shirt or a channel header. For written lines, see our team mottos guide.

What events suit a team chant?

Sales kickoffs, all-hands meetings, sports days, office olympics and team game nights. Anything with a scoreboard gives a chant something to cheer for, like a hosted Office Olympics.
