Run your own Family Feud survey
Our points are an educated guess. Your team's real answers are funnier, because people recognize their coworkers in them. A 10-question poll the week before is enough.
- Pick 10 questions from this page. Mix easy and funny ones, and leave out anything your team would find too inside-baseball.
- Put them in a free form tool as short-answer questions. One box per question, no multiple choice. Multiple choice gives the answers away.
- Send it a week before the game. Ask for the first answer that comes to mind, and keep it anonymous. Give people three or four days.
- Group the answers that mean the same thing. Coffee, a coffee and more coffee are one answer. Be generous; it's a party, not a census.
- Turn counts into points. Points are the share of people who gave each answer: if 12 of 40 said coffee, coffee is worth 30. Keep the top five or six.
- Write the results on the host sheet. Print our host sheet and correct the points by hand, or read your numbers out as answers come up on the board.
How to host a Family Feud-style game at work
One host, two teams and the board above on a shared screen or a meeting room TV. Five rounds take about 30 minutes.
- Make two teams. Three to eight players each. For a bigger group, rotate players every round or let each table play as one team member.
- Start each round with a faceoff. One player from each team steps up, the host reads the question, and the first to buzz answers. A slapped table, a raised hand or a desk bell all work as a buzzer.
- Decide who plays. The player with the higher answer on the board wins the faceoff, and their team takes control of the round.
- Guess in turn. Players on the team in control answer one at a time. Each right answer is revealed and its points go into the round. Each wrong answer is a strike.
- Three strikes opens a steal. The other team talks it over and gives one answer. If it's on the board, they take every point in the round. If not, the team in control keeps them.
- Clear the board to win the round outright. A team that finds every answer before its third strike takes the round's points.
- Play to a score or a clock. First to 300 points, or the most points after five or six rounds. A 30-minute game usually fits five rounds.
House rules worth agreeing first
- Accept close matches. Mug, coffee mug and cup all count. The host's call is final, and generous is more fun.
- Give each player five seconds. Count it out loud; silence after five is a strike.
- Let teams confer only on the steal. During play, each player answers alone. It keeps everyone in the game.
- Rotate the faceoff. A new player from each team every round, so the loudest person doesn't play every time.
A fast money finale
Use the quick-fire set for a short finale after the last round. A common way to play it:
- Pick two players from the winning team. The second one waits out of earshot, or on mute with headphones.
- The first player gets 20 seconds to answer five quick-fire questions, one answer each.
- The second player gets 25 seconds for the same five questions and can't repeat an answer the first player gave.
- Add up both players' points. 200 or more wins the prize.
On Zoom or Teams
Share the board from the host's screen. Players buzz in with a raised hand or the first message in the chat, and teams confer in breakout rooms during a steal. For a hybrid group, mix office and remote players on both teams; our hybrid holiday party ideas cover the room setup.
Printable host answer sheet
